Slow Cooker Pork Belly INGREDIENTS
If you are intimidated by making “Chinese” food, here is a simple recipe that will satisfy the entire family and friends!
This “fall-apart” braised pork in the slow cooker is truly amazing…
No rocket science, let’s have a look at the ingredients list:
- 2 lb. boneless pork belly
- 2 Tbsp. minced garlic
- 2 Tbsp. brown sugar (or rock sugar) or American Grade A Honey
- ½ cup light soy sauce
- 2 Tbsp. rice wine
- 3 Tbsp. dried shallot
- 1 tsp. five spice powder
- ½ tsp. white pepper
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. dark soy sauce
- 4 cups filtered water (or more to cover the meat)
- eggs (optional)
- Cut the pork belly into large pieces, then brown for a few minutes before putting into your slow cooker.
- Add all the seasonings and water (just enough to cover the pork ~ approximately 4 cups of water), then cook on high for 6 hours.
- Add optional medium boiled eggs or other ingredients like bamboo shoots.
- Serve hot over rice.
- Spoon a bit of the braising liquid over the pork, eggs, and rice for extra flavor.
Here are some alternative ingredients you can use for your slow cooker pork belly recipe:
- Grade A American Honey instead of brown sugar
- Molasses instead of brown sugar
- Maple syrup instead of brown sugar
- Apple cider vinegar instead of rice wine
- Red wine vinegar instead of rice wine
- Balsamic vinegar instead of rice wine
- Onion powder instead of dried shallot
- Garlic powder instead of minced garlic
- Ground ginger instead of minced garlic
- Cumin powder instead of five spice powder
You can also add some vegetables like broccoli, bok choy, onion, carrot, and some baby corn as an accompaniment to this dish. It’s a delicious combination that is super easy to make quickly. An option if you have multiple slow cookers is to make some creamy cabbage
